Know your rights. New Zealand law (Civil Aviation Act) provides for compensation by an airline to domestic passengers whose flights are delayed or cancelled. This is not something Air NZ has been particularly transparent about. The statutory amount is actual losses caused by the event or 10 times the fare paid, whichever is less. Air NZ is known to have made offers less than this to passengers unaware of the rule, if media reports are accurate. The money is not payable unless the delay or cancellation was within the control of the carrier e.g. not for weather or ATC requirements.
