With Qantas international flights out of Perth & Sydney, most passengers from Melbourne have to take domestic flights to these cities and therefore do not get opportunity to enjoy Melbourne First Class lounge, the QF9 Melbourne - London via Perth used to fly out of Melbourne but now is only out of Perth and the Perth lounge is worst as it is does not offer much at all as it's only a 'transit lounge' but if you are stuck there for over 3 hours like I was end July it was annoying, what's point of reaching platinum and not being able to use first class lounge. So really Qantas changing to 'spring' menu means nothing to passengers who can't use it and unless more flights are direct out of Melbourne then no one can use the facilities!
Agree there are flights that use it but I'm onside with R_B complaint because I'm mostly going to UK and now QF9 being ditched is absurd and stupid. Instead we have to use A33s to SIN and transfer to 1...
I never been in QF First in Melbourne, but recently have a chance to visit QF First in Sydney that suppose to be superior to Melbourne counterpart. In my humble opinion it is severely overrated and it indeed disappoint my expectation. I missed opportunity to book spa session because our flight was too early and having spa could swing my opinion a bit. Otherwise nothing super impressive - big nicely design clean area with OK restaurant..... this is about it. It is nowhere even remotely close to marvelous The Pier Business lounge in HKG (yes, I rated it higher than The Pier First). So why bother? You still have edible food and drinkable booze in any QF business lounge.
NB. And FWIW I personally would ban entry into any lounge base on status - use your status to upgrade your flight to Business or First and then you are welcome.

What about direct flights to Los Angeles, Dalles, Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown, Singapore, Jakarta, Tokyo, Wellington, Hong Kong, etc
It's only London, Paris and Rome via Perth... and with London you have the option to fly via Singapore.
Have used the lounge many times and enjoy a fantastic pre departure meal.

QF platinum I use the lounge quite a bit when flying Cathay out of Melbourne so it's not only for Qantas flights.
